Brown Bag Brigade
Brown Bag Brigade……
In the fall of 2010, two of our members shared their concern for homeless families with the Men's Ministry of FBC. With $140 dollars and a vision to assist those in need, on January 5, 2011, the Brown Bag Brigade (BBB) was born. With support from the Men's Ministry and the FBC Youth Group, 80 bags were stuffed with sandwiches and distributed to people living in tents and motels in Mt. Holly and Browns Mills. Within the first month, the BBB was distributing over 200 bags each week.
Now every Wednesday morning, 400 bags are prepared with sandwiches, a snack, bottled water and a message of hope. Bible verse cards, and other faith-sharing flyers are tucked into the bags for those who receive them to read and carry with them. Times of sharing from the Word and prayer are incorporated in the delivery of food.
With the assistance from several churches in the Mt. Holly area and various volunteers from FBC, BBB now distributes to 2 shelters in Mt. Holly, the Extended Hands Shelter for those living along the railroad tracks in tents, and approximately 21 hotels from Wrightstown and Pemberton to Burlington and Florence. BBB also provides transportation from the hotels to bring families to FBC for Sunday School, church services and other special events offered at the church.
Volunteers are always needed to make sandwiches on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 am and on Wednesday afternoons at 4:45 PM to make deliveries. Donations are needed as well and lists can be found in the foyer. Cash donations are always needed for additional expenses. If you can give above your tithe to the Lord, it would be greatly appreciated. Be sure to mark your envelope line for "BBB."
